Fun Run Rules

These Race Rules apply to all participants taking part in the Heritage Fun Run.
1. General Participation
- 1.1 All participants must be officially registered for the Heritage Fun Run.
- 1.2 Participants must comply with all reasonable instructions given by race officials, marshals, SAPS, traffic officials, security personnel, medical personnel and authorised volunteers.
- 1.3 Participants take part in the event at their own pace and must behave in a manner that does not endanger themselves, other participants or members of the public.
- 1.4 The Heritage Fun Run is intended to be a family-friendly and community-focused event.
2. Race Numbers
- 2.1 Each participant must use the official race number or identification issued to them.
- 2.2 Race numbers must be clearly visible during the event.
- 2.3 A race number may not be transferred to another person without prior approval from the organisers.
- 2.4 Participants must not alter, copy or duplicate an official race number.
3. Starting Procedure
- 3.1 Participants must report to the designated starting area before the official start time.
- 3.2 Participants must follow the instructions of race officials regarding starting positions.
- 3.3 Faster runners should, where possible, position themselves towards the front of the starting area.
- 3.4 Walkers, participants with prams and slower participants should position themselves towards the rear to help ensure a safe start.
- 3.5 Participants may only start when instructed to do so by the race officials.
4. The Route
- 4.1 Participants must remain on the official marked route.
- 4.2 Shortcuts are not permitted.
- 4.3 Participants must obey route signage, marshal instructions and traffic-control measures.
- 4.4 Participants who deliberately leave the route or shorten the course may be disqualified from official results or prizes, where applicable.
- 4.5 Participants must exercise particular care at road crossings, intersections and areas open to normal traffic.
5. Road Safety
- 5.1 Unless specifically indicated otherwise by race officials, participants must remain alert to vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users.
- 5.2 Participants must obey lawful instructions from SAPS, traffic officials and race marshals.
- 5.3 Participants must not intentionally obstruct traffic or ignore traffic-control instructions.
- 5.4 Headphones or earphones should be used responsibly and at a volume that allows the participant to hear marshal instructions, warning signals and surrounding traffic.
6. Conduct
- 6.1 Participants must treat other runners, walkers, officials, volunteers, residents and members of the public with respect.
- 6.2 Abusive, threatening, aggressive or dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.
- 6.3 Participants must not intentionally push, block, trip or interfere with another participant.
- 6.4 Participants must not damage property, litter unnecessarily or interfere with equipment used by the organisers.
- 6.5 A participant may be removed or disqualified for serious misconduct or behaviour that creates a safety risk.
7. Children & Minors
- 7.1 Participants under the age of 18 must have the required consent of a parent or legal guardian.
- 7.2 Parents and guardians remain responsible for ensuring that children are appropriately supervised.
- 7.3 Younger children should be accompanied by a responsible adult where reasonably necessary for their age and ability.
8. Prams & Strollers
- 8.1 Prams and strollers may participate where permitted by the organisers.
- 8.2 Participants using prams or strollers should start towards the rear of the field.
- 8.3 The participant pushing the pram or stroller is responsible for maintaining safe control at all times.
- 8.4 Prams or strollers must not obstruct or endanger other participants.
9. Pets
- Pets may only accompany participants if the organisers specifically permit pets for the event.
- Where pets are permitted, they must remain under the owner's control.
- Dogs must be kept on an appropriate lead.
- Owners remain responsible for their animals.
- Owners must clean up after their pets.
- Animals showing aggressive or unsafe behaviour may be removed from the event area.
10. Bicycles, Scooters & Other Devices
- Unless specifically authorised by the organisers, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades and similar devices may not be used by participants on the race route.
- Wheelchairs and other mobility devices are permitted subject to any reasonable safety requirements communicated by the organisers.
11. Water Points
- 11.1 Participants should make responsible use of official water points.
- 11.2 Participants are encouraged to remain appropriately hydrated before and during the event.
- 11.3 Participants should dispose of cups, bottles and other waste in the designated areas where possible.
12. Medical & Safety Matters
- 12.1 Any participant who becomes unwell, injured or unable to continue safely should stop and notify the nearest marshal, official or medical team.
- 12.2 Participants must follow reasonable medical instructions given by authorised emergency or medical personnel.
- 12.3 Race officials or medical personnel may prevent a participant from continuing where there are reasonable grounds to believe that continuing could create a serious health or safety risk.
13. Outside Assistance
- 13.1 Participants may receive reasonable assistance for medical, safety or emergency purposes.
- 13.2 Where the event includes competitive results or prizes, participants may not receive unfair assistance that gives them an advantage over other competitors.
14. Finish Area
- 14.1 Participants must cross the designated finish line to be regarded as having completed the official route.
- 14.2 Participants should move away from the immediate finish-line area after completing the race to avoid congestion.
- 14.3 Participants must follow instructions given by finish-line officials.
15. Results & Prizes
- 15.1 Participants must complete the full official course.
- 15.2 Participants must use their own registered race number.
- 15.3 Participants may be required to provide proof of identity before receiving a prize.
- 15.4 Any objection relating to results should be raised with the organisers within the period communicated on race day.
- 15.5 The organisers' decision regarding results and prizes will be final, subject to applicable law and any formal event rules.
16. Littering
- Participants are requested to help keep the route and surrounding community clean.
- Waste should be placed in bins or designated disposal areas wherever reasonably possible.
- Deliberate littering may result in a warning or disqualification.
17. Event Changes
- The organisers may reasonably amend the route, the starting procedure, start times, water-point locations, cut-off arrangements or other operational race arrangements where required for safety, weather, traffic, security, emergency or operational reasons.
18. Cut-Off Time
- Where a cut-off time applies, participants will be informed before the event.
- Participants who have not reached designated points within the applicable cut-off time may be asked to leave the official route or continue as ordinary pedestrians, depending on safety and operational requirements.
19. Disqualification
- A participant may be disqualified for deliberately shortening the course, using another person's race number, ignoring lawful safety instructions, dangerous or abusive conduct, cheating, receiving unfair assistance in a competitive category, interfering with another participant, or a serious breach of these Race Rules.
20. Acceptance of Race Rules
- By registering for and participating in the Heritage Fun Run, the participant agrees to comply with these Race Rules together with the event's Terms & Conditions and Participant Indemnity.
